Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a stolen car case following a thrilling chase that traversed various neighborhoods in South and East Los Angeles on Sunday.
The cause of the pursuit remains uncertain, but the chase began around 6:15 p.m. on the westbound CA-60 Freeway.
Around 6:30 p.m., the driver and a female passenger got out of the car in an alleyway near S. Fetterly Avenue and Telegraph Road.
Leaving the girl behind, the driver got back into the car and resumed driving.
The suspect led deputies on a high-speed chase through surface streets in the South Gate-East Los Angeles area and into Boyle Heights. They disregarded traffic signals and drove dangerously through the neighborhoods.
As they proceeded, SkyCal noticed that the patrol cars had retreated and shifted into surveillance mode, with only their helicopter remaining overhead.
The suspect entered the US-101 Freeway northbound at 6:45 p.m., displaying erratic driving behavior as they weaved through other vehicles. Eventually, they exited at E. 4th Street and S. Gless Street in Central City East.
The suspect was observed driving into a parking lot multiple times, maneuvering through turns and u-turns, and eventually returning to the same street they initially started on.
