As 7-year-old Gia, the daughter of the late Gonzalo Galvez, a tactical medic with the sheriff’s department, walked into her first day of second grade, several deputies lined the school’s entryway and applauded.
Gonzalo Galvez, who sadly passed away on August 6, 2024, is seen in this photo with his wife and two children.
The sheriff’s department recently shared on social media that Galvez, a dedicated member with 24 years of experience, passed away after bravely fighting cancer earlier this month.
According to her, it meant a lot to her and her children for his sheriff’s office “brothers” to stand in his place on Gia’s first day of school.
Gia, clutching a photo of her beloved late father, made her way into school on Wednesday. Along the way, she paused to embrace each deputy she encountered. An assistant director with the LASD named Mike Leum recorded and shared this touching scene on X.
In recognition of Galvez’s years of service performing helicopter rescues, a helicopter flew over Gia’s school, adding to the deputies’ attendance.
A special escort from the officers of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department marked the first day of school for the late Gonzalo Galvez’s daughter.
Another person expressed their joy at witnessing the happiness reflected on his daughter’s face, emphasizing the significance of the experience.
