A man barricaded in a vehicle caused a standoff with Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, resulting in the closure of Pacific Coast Highway at Point Dume in Malibu. This incident caused significant traffic disruptions that lasted for several hours.
Around 1 a.m., deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station came across a vehicle with an expired registration parked illegally on the 29000 block of PCH. As they approached the vehicle, the man inside displayed uncooperative and combative behavior.
After conducting a license plate check on the vehicle, deputies made a significant discovery – the man behind the wheel had an active, no-bail felony warrant. According to Adam Zeko, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, when the deputies approached the suspect to make an arrest, he not only resisted but also barricaded himself inside his vehicle. In an attempt to defend himself, the suspect resorted to assaulting the deputies with a fire extinguisher.
The Lost Hills Station took swift action by deploying extra resources, including a specialized weapons team, to effectively handle the situation. As a result, the road closure between Heathercliff Road and Busch Drive was implemented at approximately 5 a.m. This measure was necessary due to a suspect who had barricaded themselves in a vehicle following an assault with a deadly weapon. This information was shared via a social media update from the Lost Hills Station.
The man was apprehended without any trouble around 8:30 a.m., and approximately an hour later, the road was reopened to traffic.
