The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the body of a missing 60-year-old grandmother found floating in the Dominguez Channel in Carson last month.
The woman has been officially identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner as Prisciliana Rose Douglas, a resident of Los Angeles aged 60.
Douglas’ body was discovered on July 28, floating in the channel , approximately five days before her family’s report to the Los Angeles Police Department that she was missing.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death as the body displayed clear indications of trauma.
In early August, the family filed a missing person report with the LAPD, unaware of Douglas’ death.
Douglas, a mother of seven and a grandmother of nine, was reported missing by her family. According to the information provided to the Police Department, she was last seen leaving her apartment near the intersection of 39th Street and Walton Avenue, which is close to Exposition Park.
The police issued a missing person bulletin on August 5, expressing their concern for Mrs. Douglas’s safety and well-being. At the time of her disappearance, her family was unsure of what she was wearing when she left her home. They emphasized that Mrs. Douglas is mentally sound, further highlighting the urgency to locate her.
The search for Douglas took a heartbreaking turn when police informed his family members about his untimely demise.
Dave Douglas, the son of the deceased, shared that he received the aforementioned notification on August 17th. He expressed that this period has been incredibly challenging for the family on an emotional level.

Douglas mentioned that his mother had a fondness for attending church services and enjoyed taking leisurely walks. In addition, she possessed a talent for crocheting and knitting, often creating sweaters, dresses, and beanies for her beloved grandchildren.
Douglas fondly remembers her as someone who had a heart of gold and was incredibly compassionate. According to him, she possessed a remarkable quality of being non-judgmental and approachable. Douglas emphasizes that she was always willing to lend an ear and provide a safe space for open conversations.
According to Douglas, his mother was born in Belize and moved to Los Angeles as a teenager. Initially, she worked as a bus driver before transitioning into a career as a caregiver.
Growing up, he reminisced about his childhood and acknowledged that it wasn’t always a walk in the park. However, he fondly remembered how his mother consistently ensured that he and his siblings had everything they required. Furthermore, she instilled in them the invaluable lesson of finding the silver lining in any situation.
Gabby Douglas expressed her gratitude for the valuable lessons she learned from her mentor. According to Douglas, she was taught the importance of resilience and perseverance. She emphasized the significance of staying strong, pushing through challenges, and maintaining a positive outlook.
Douglas’s loved ones will be honored and remembered as they organize a funeral in his honor in just two weeks.
