The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has recently approved a new development project to tackle the pressing issue of affordable housing in Lincoln Heights. Situated at 1321 North Mission Road, the project is a crucial component of the Restorative Care Village expansion’s initial phase and will entail the construction of approximately 300 affordable apartment units.
Century Housing Corp. is the project’s lead sponsor at 1321 North Mission Road, which GGA+ (now known as Practice) designed. Spanning across 2.3 acres, the property is owned by Los Angeles County and is set to provide 296 apartment units, as reported by Layibby. These units will be exclusively available for households with incomes ranging from 30 to 60 percent of the area’s median income, making sure that the development caters to some of the most vulnerable populations in the region.
The project’s architectural design is a perfect blend of modernity and warmth. As illustrated in the renderings, the building showcases a contemporary facade adorned with sleek lines and an innovative utilization of open spaces. The elevated upper levels, supported by elegant columns, contribute to a sense of openness and airiness at the street level. The presence of expansive windows and captivating murals enhances the building’s overall aesthetic, aiming to promote a strong sense of community and interconnectedness.
The Restorative Care Village, a crucial part of the Los Angeles General Medical Center’s initiatives, plays a vital role in assisting unhoused patients who have been discharged from the hospital. By combining housing and essential healthcare services, the village aims to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to recovery.
The Board of Supervisors has made a significant financial commitment to this project, providing $55 million in bond financing and an additional $10 million loan to Century Housing Corp. This funding is crucial in ensuring the success of the endeavor and reflects the County’s dedication to tackling homelessness and housing insecurity.
