Authorities and jail records indicate that a 14-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by a former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy and his nephew.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has accused Benny Caluya, a former deputy, of both embezzlement and sexual assault. On August 28, Caluya was apprehended by Lancaster sheriff’s deputies, and his bail was established at $250,000.
According to the department, Clifford Abihai, a 49-year-old man, has been accused of kidnapping. His bail has been set at $100,000.
The two suspects were released on bond on the same day they were arrested and have a court date set for September 30 at the Antelope Valley Courthouse. It is not clear at this time how the suspects were acquainted with the alleged victim or what events transpired leading to their arrest.
Detectives from the department’s Special Victims Bureau will present the case to local prosecutors for filing consideration before the court date.
Abihai mentioned that he had hired a lawyer, although he couldn’t recall the lawyer’s name.
