First responder groups reaffirmed their plan to impose heavier sanctions as illegal fireworks lit up the sky above the Sacramento region for a second year.
An official from the Sacramento Fire Department, Justin Sylvia, explained the potential consequences of using unapproved fireworks. $1,000 is the fine for the first infraction, $2,500 for the second, and $5,000 for the third.
“So if you got caught three nights in a row, expect to have a $8,500 bill in your mailbox,” Sylvia explained.
As of Tuesday, Sylvia stated that everybody due for a ticket might expect to receive one in around two to three weeks. He added that his team had meticulously documented these citations in the hopes that individuals would challenge them. Fire prevention officers are not sworn peace officers, therefore, the process takes some time.
According to Sylvia, this implies that in the upcoming weeks, they must collect images and video evidence, assemble it, and then mail out the citations to the appropriate people in the United States.
Owing to a countywide social host ordinance, regardless of who lit it, you are accountable for whatever is done in front of your property.
“We’re attempting to make it worthwhile by pressing you to pay these hefty fines. We’ve had enough of these illicit fireworks,” Sylvia remarked.
