The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has reported that a 22-year-old man from San Marcos has been taken into custody on Friday for possession of a suspected ghost gun. The individual is facing gun-related charges for the possession of the gun.

Around 11 p.m., law enforcement officials detained Tristan Banuelos at the 500 block of Spanish Oak Avenue.

The department stated that a group of “suspicious individuals” were reported in the area by neighbors, prompting deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station to respond to the scene.

When the deputies arrived at the location, they encountered four individuals gathered around a pickup truck. As they approached the vehicle, they discovered a loaded handgun on the passenger seat. The sheriff’s department has confirmed that further investigation revealed the firearm to be a ghost gun.

The so-called “ghost guns” are distinct from firearms produced by authorized businesses in that they lack a serial number or any other identifying markings, making it difficult for law enforcement agencies to track them down.

Authorities have taken Banuelos, the driver of the pickup truck, into custody in relation to the incident. Banuelos is now facing serious charges, including carrying a loaded firearm in a public area or street, as well as possessing a firearm without a serial number. Law enforcement officials are treating these charges very seriously because they are felonies.
