A fire that broke out on Saturday evening has resulted in the closure of both directions of Highway 58 in the Mojave area.
At approximately 4:49 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department took to social media to announce that their crews had arrived at the location of a 10-acre vegetation fire near Cameron Road off of Highway 58.
The fire’s forward progress came to a halt approximately 20 minutes later, according to the department’s announcement.
According to reports, it is important to note that hazardous materials are currently burning, resulting in smoke. Therefore, it is advised to avoid driving through this particular area.
A vehicle fire has caused the closure of Highway 58 in both directions between Mojave and Sand Canyon Road, according to CHP Mojave.
According to the CHP, it is advisable to seek alternative routes as the road may be closed until 7:30 p.m.
