On Thursday, Washoe County deputies arrested a wanted felon from California on numerous charges, which include battery with a deadly weapon.
At around 2:30 p.m. on July 18, deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a property on Honey Lake Way in Fish Springs, which is situated about sixty miles to the north of the Reno/Sparks region. The purpose of the visit was to conduct a welfare check on an individual who was suspected to be a victim of domestic violence.
According to the information received, the potential suspect is Danny Anakalea, 48 years old and with a felony warrant out of California for absconding from parole. His initial charges were related to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and stolen property. Moreover, WCSO patrol deputies were searching for him as he was identified as the suspect in a recent case of battery with a deadly weapon.

Several deputies from WCSO rushed to an address in Fish Springs due to the violent nature of the charges and the isolated location. Upon arrival, a strategy was devised by the deputies to approach the property with safety and speed in mind. A neighbor from the vicinity contacted the authorities and confirmed the domestic battery incident involving Anakalea and the victim who lived at the property.
The deputies were able to establish a secure perimeter and eventually found the female victim who was safely placed inside a patrol vehicle. Despite several attempts to communicate, it took some time before Anakalea finally surrendered to the deputies. Thankfully, the arrest was made without any incident.
Upon his arrest, Anakalea was taken to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was formally charged with various offenses, including:

- Failure to register by a convicted person
- Battery with a deadly weapon
- Injuring/Tampering with a motor vehicle resulting in damage of $250-$5,000
- Fugitive warrant from California for absconding from parole
