According to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, at least one deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shot and killed a man on Sunday who was believed to have committed an armed robbery or attempted robbery at a nearby 7-Eleven store.
Officials reported that the shooting took place at around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of Gardner Street, which is near Santa Monica Boulevard.
Investigators reported that a nearby individual alerted the deputies about the suspect’s presence, and upon locating him, they tried to apprehend him.
According to the department, the man produced a knife and in response, at least one deputy fired shots, hitting the suspect.
Authorities stated that the suspect was transported to a hospital but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival. According to Deputy Veronica Fantom, City News Service was informed that there were no injuries sustained by any deputies.
According to the investigators, they found a knife at the location of the incident. Jenna Finley, a local resident, told reporters that the sound of gunshots had startled her.
Finley shared that he and his companions were surprised by the sudden sound of gunshots. After waiting for a minute, they went outside to see what had happened and discovered a man lying on his back. Four or five police officers were present, providing the injured man with first aid.
As we lingered at the spot, our attention was drawn to the vehicle positioned directly behind it. We closer looked and saw that there was a noticeable hole in the window where bullets had struck it. The projectile had pierced through the car and exited from the other side.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
