Eguia expressed his concern about the X-rays, stating, “I noticed certain characteristics that made me believe it could be a live grenade.”

Upon conducting tests on the four devices, Eguia concluded that three of them were deemed safe. However, the fourth device raised concerns as it appeared to be a functioning explosive device.

According to Eguia, the grenades appeared to be quite old and some of them were in a deteriorating condition. He also mentioned that they seemed unstable and could pose a significant danger if mishandled by someone who is unfamiliar with their functioning.

A gardener discovered four hidden grenades in a hedge at Baldwin Park, according to the SEBLASD.

While trimming a bush on Thursday along Merced Avenue, near a restaurant and apartment complex, a gardener made a surprising discovery.

“I’m all for protecting our First Amendment rights and allowing people to own handguns and other self-defense tools,” expressed Tony Shao, a resident in the vicinity. “However, when it comes to grenades, I’m genuinely concerned about how individuals manage to acquire such dangerous weaponry.”

According to Eguia, it is not uncommon to receive a call regarding the discovery of grenades. However, these incidents usually involve finding them in the homes of elderly individuals. The sergeant expressed concern over the fact that F-1 style grenades were found in a bush near a restaurant.

Egui stated that receiving a hand grenade call is not an uncommon occurrence. However, what is concerning is the location of this incident and the motive behind why someone would do such a thing.

On Friday, federal authorities thoroughly searched the area, engaging in conversations with neighbors and scouring for any potential surveillance footage. Their main objective was to determine the source and circumstances surrounding the discovery of the grenades.

The FBI spokesperson informed FOX 11 that they are working in collaboration with the LA County Sheriff’s Department and Baldwin Park PD to investigate the discovery of the grenades. If anyone possesses any information regarding the grenades in question, they are encouraged to reach out to the FBI.
