Jeffery Chao, a man whose 15-year-old daughter went missing almost two weeks ago in Monterey Park, has been accused of felony child stealing/concealment.

The misdemeanor count of false report of an emergency was also filed by the LA County DA’s Office.

District Attorney Gascón stated that falsely reporting a child as missing not only breaks the law but also takes away valuable law enforcement resources from other important matters. He emphasized that this kind of behavior will not be accepted, and those responsible will face the consequences of their actions.

Chao pleaded not guilty and was instructed to surrender all firearms. According to his lawyer, he possesses multiple semi-automatic weapons, but Chao has never been convicted of a crime.

If he is found guilty of the charges, he could face up to 5 years in prison. A GPS tracking system has been placed on him and his bail has been set at $500,000 by the judge.

Alison Chao was found safe in Glendale just three days before the arrest of Chao, who is 40 years old and was taken into custody on July 26.

On July 16, Alison was reported missing when she did not arrive at her relative’s house in San Gabriel after leaving her Monterey Park residence on her bike.

The DA’s Office has reported that on the evening of July 16, Chao is believed to have taken and concealed his daughter, and then reported her missing to law enforcement, falsely.

Alison Chao found, family frustrated with ‘system’

After being missing for a week, 15-year-old Alison Chao was found unharmed. She had disappeared while riding her bike to a relative’s house in the San Gabriel Valley.

During a press conference, Matthew Seedorff from FOX 11 asked Chao if he had received any updates from his missing daughter. Chao, in response, repeatedly stated that he had not heard anything from her during the days she was missing.

Alison is currently under the care of DCFS and is residing with a close family friend for protection.

According to Alison’s parents, they are currently going through a divorce and fighting for custody of their child. Recently, the court granted full custody to Alison’s mother.
