The family of a Marine who tragically lost his life after an assault and hit-and-run incident is appealing to the public to provide any information that can aid in the murder investigation.
In May, Peter Chounthala was murdered and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, Thomas announced a reward in the case while being surrounded by Chounthala’s family and fellow Marines. Thomas stated that investigators believe Mr. Chounthala was an innocent victim of senseless acts of violence.
According to Thomas, Chounthala, a Philadelphia native, had enlisted in the Marines back in 2008. He had served in Afghanistan and multiple Marine expeditionary units, eventually becoming a wounded warrior and a recovering service Marine.
According to his wife, Jurina Chounthala, he had been the “best dad” to his three-year-old son and had intended to become a stay-at-home dad after retiring from the Marines later this year.

“It has been challenging for him not to hear his dad speak to him in his native language,” she expressed.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau recently conducted a press conference, requesting the public’s cooperation in providing information related to the murder of Peter Chounthala on July 24, 2024.

While stationed overseas, Jurina Chounthala, an active duty member of the Air Force, met her husband. She fondly remembers him as a dedicated and proud Marine, as well as a loving husband.
“He meant the world to me, my family, and our loved ones,” she expressed. “He was the one who brought us all closer and kept us together like glue.”
“Come forward with any information you have,” she urged.
“He was a good man, a great human being, and I urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring justice,” she pleaded. “My hope is that we can finally find closure.”
Chounthala leaves behind two younger sisters who are grieving his loss. Witpha Chounthala, one of his sisters, has made a heartfelt plea to the culprits, urging them to take responsibility for their actions and surrender themselves to the authorities.
During the press briefing, she urged the individual to make things easier for everyone involved. She emphasized that although they may try to evade justice, it can only last for a limited time. However, she also reminded them that it’s impossible to run away from God.
