The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a deputy shooting that occurred in La Mirada.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation into a deputy shooting in La Mirada on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1:45 p.m., in the 14700 block of Firestone Boulevard, a significant incident unfolded as the local police department’s gang unit approached a murder suspect near a nearby hotel. To impede the suspect’s escape, deputies in unmarked vehicles strategically positioned themselves, blocking the suspect’s vehicle within the parking lot.

According to an LASD spokesperson, the deputies shot at the armed suspect in an attempt to apprehend him, hitting him at least once.

The man was taken to the hospital by paramedics in an unknown condition. LASD confirmed that no deputies were injured.

Multiple agencies initiate separate investigations into deputy shootings that lead to injuries. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau promptly arrive at the scene to conduct their respective inquiries.

Once the case is received, it is passed on to the Critical Incident Review Panel for assessment and to determine if any immediate actions need to be taken.

The investigation is overseen by a representative from the Office of the Inspector General. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee reviews the shooting.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office thoroughly examines the investigation to ascertain whether the shooting was justified under the law or if criminal charges should be pursued.
