According to police reports, law enforcement officials have successfully apprehended the man who was captured on video engaging in a vicious assault on a woman before callously throwing her onto the train tracks at a Metro platform in Pasadena.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the attack was described as unprovoked. The department further stated that the woman was not acquainted with the assailant, identified as Juan Pablo Flores, aged 33.
Flores has been charged with attempted murder and mayhem. As of now, he is being held without bail.
The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment for her injuries. She sustained a broken nose, bruises on her head, swelling, and cuts all over her body. According to the LASD, she is currently in the process of recovering from the assault and has been facing challenges with walking.
The agency expressed its well wishes for the woman’s speedy and complete recovery, as stated in a Metro press release.
After the violence, LA County Supervisor and Chair of the Metro Board of Directors, Janice Hahn, expressed her thoughts on the matter with the following statement:
In her statement, the board expressed their deep concern regarding the alarming incident that took place at the Allen Station in Pasadena, where a woman was attacked earlier this morning. They are relieved to know that the victim is now recovering and that the suspect has been apprehended.
The board emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation into the incident, including an assessment of the presence and actions of both Metro’s contracted law enforcement and transit security at the time of the attack. Additionally, they demand a comprehensive plan to enhance security measures during early morning commuting hours.
Months after Metro board members voted to establish a dedicated police force for the agency in an attempt to enhance rider safety, a chilling assault has shaken commuters and left them feeling uneasy.
“It’s absolutely devastating and incredibly scary,” expressed Ducien Allen, a regular Metro rider.
She expressed her concerns by asking, “Is anyone not monitoring the cameras? Where is the office? Where is all of this?” She raised several questions that require answers.
Jeremy Gonzalez, another Metro passenger, expressed that witnessing such incidents is now more stressful.
