On Friday morning, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County revealed that its internal systems fell victim to a ransomware attack.
In order to protect its network systems, the Court has disabled them and they will remain inaccessible throughout the weekend until the issue is resolved.
On Friday night, the Superior Court system released a statement indicating that the breach is currently under investigation by multiple agencies, including the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. The aim of the investigation is to reduce any potential damage caused by the breach.
According to the Court, years of upgrading the cybersecurity infrastructure enabled the rapid detection of the cyber attack.
It is thought that the attack is not related to the recent Crowdstrike outage which impacted various airlines, hospitals, and other businesses on Thursday.
On Thursday night, Microsoft verified that several Microsoft 365 apps and services were inaccessible due to a software update by a cybersecurity firm on Microsoft Windows computers.
The Court has stated that their preliminary investigation has revealed no evidence of any compromise of court user’s data.
