Los Angeles Councilman Tim McOsker is urging the city to increase its provision of police officers and other safety resources following yet another incident of a large group of thieves ransacking a 7-Eleven store and managing to escape.
According to a watch commander at the LAPD’s Harbor station, police received multiple calls at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Saturday regarding a potential street takeover and disturbance inside a 7-Eleven located in the vicinity of Gaffey and First streets. This incident marks the most recent occurrence in a series of similar crimes.
Upon their arrival at the scene, officers observed that the convenience store had been ransacked and multiple items had been stolen. The watch commander informed them that the suspects had already fled the scene before the officers arrived.
The police did not have any information on the suspect.
According to Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, paramedics were sent to the 700 block of West First Street at 1:38 a.m. in response to a shooting. However, the LAPD later canceled the request for their assistance.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a group of approximately 30-50 individuals vandalized the store, causing significant damage by toppling shelves and looting various items. The stolen goods included an estimated value of $10,000-$20,000 worth of food items, around 1,000 packs of cigarettes valued at $15,000, $500 in cash, and approximately $20,000 worth of Lottery tickets.
Around 30 individuals went on a rampage at a 7-Eleven store in San Pedro during the early hours of Saturday. The incident was captured on video and aired on the NBC4 News at 7 a.m. on August 24, 2024.
