As an individual, Daelena Mackay was brimming with vitality and enthusiasm. She aspired to pursue a career in acting, much like her father.
In May, she tragically passed away at the young age of 21. Her lifeless body was discovered in her Los Angeles apartment, hanging from a red scarf. Despite ongoing investigations, the county coroner ultimately ruled her death a suicide. Her body has remained in a morgue since the incident.
Dwayne Adway, a well-known Hollywood actor who has graced popular TV shows such as CSI, NYPD Blue, and Soul Plane, is the father of the deceased. He has expressed his skepticism towards the cause of his daughter’s untimely death and is determined to seek “truth and justice” for her. Elaine Mackay, the mother of the deceased, has also come forward to assert that her daughter had inexplicable injuries, adding to the growing suspicion surrounding the death.
On May 23, a man who identified himself as Mackay’s boyfriend found her unresponsive in her El Centro Hollywood bathroom. He immediately called 911 and tried to revive her, but unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful. Paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead shortly after midnight.
According to the police report, the boyfriend claimed that he had an argument with her and left the apartment around 8 pm. When he returned, he found her dead.
According to the Daily Mail, an autopsy was not conducted by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner. The coroner stated that they were able to determine the cause of death through an external examination and by taking into account the circumstances surrounding the 20-year-old’s passing.
According to the New York Post, Adway, Mackay’s father, is not content with the current state of the investigation into his daughter’s case. He plans to exert pressure on the Los Angeles Police Department to conduct a more thorough investigation.
“He said that they have a strong determination to stay in their current position and not investigate the case further. Unfortunately, this trend seems to be becoming more common in LA, particularly with black and brown girls who are reported to have died by suicide,” he commented.
According to Adway, he has personally met with the individual who made the 911 call on the day of his daughter’s passing and expressed concerns about the individual’s conduct.
According to Mackay’s mother, the alleged partner was not the same person as her daughter’s long-term on-and-off boyfriend in Texas, as reported by the Mail.
The grieving mother has expressed her disappointment regarding the insufficient post-mortem examination conducted on her daughter’s body. She revealed that she felt compelled to examine her daughter’s body herself due to the lack of proper investigation.
According to Mackay, her daughter had visited a therapist the day before she passed away. Mackay emphasizes that there was no indication of depression or suicidal thoughts, and that her daughter was vibrant and full of life.
According to Adway, additional information about the cause of his daughter’s death is unlikely to be revealed through an autopsy. Nonetheless, he is urging authorities to take further steps in investigating the matter.
In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, he expressed his desire for the LAPD to conduct a thorough investigation in order to uncover the truth and bring about justice.
Adway, speaking to the Post, stated that the concern lies not in the fact that she was strangled, but rather in the way in which she was strangled.
The Independent has gotten in touch with the LAPD and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner to find out if they’ll conduct a more thorough investigation into Mackay’s death.
